Dr. Cabrera

Dr. Rafael A. Cabrera joins our team with many years of experience in reproductive medicine. Prior to joining IVF Florida, was practicing in South Florida at Palmetto Fertility Center. Dr. Cabrera was also Medical Director of Houston IVF, and served as Acting Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at The Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Cabrera has over fifteen years of experience in instruction, teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

Dr. Cabrera is a native of Puerto Rico and received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Puerto Rico. He completed his internship at the Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. He was a practicing Obstetrician and Gynecologist for five years before pursuing subspecialty fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the prestigious Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Norfolk, VA.

Dr. Cabrera is board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the European Society of Human Reproductive and Embryology. Dr. Cabrera has done research and published articles on the expression of prostaglandins by the monkey ovarian surface epithelium, the effect of suppressed follicular phase LH serum levels in assisted reproduction, ovarian reserve, and the impact of ovarian endometriomas in the outcome of IVF cycles.

Areas of Experience/Interest

Dr. Rafael Cabrera has ample experience in all areas of assisted reproductive technologies including in vitro fertilization (IVF), and embryo transfer, superovulation, and intrauterine insemination as well as laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. Clinical interests include diminished ovarian reserve, male factor infertility, and ectopic pregnancy. treatment of recurrent miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, diagnosis and treatment of endometriosis, and hormone replacement therapy. Wayne S. Maxson, M.D., also holds patents on micronized progesterone and a surgical device. impact of ovarian endometriomas in the outcome of IVF cycles.
